About Me

Rachel, but I prefer to go by Rae as it is what my family and friends call me.

I grew up on a small farm in rural Tennessee. I also lived in different cities, from Nashville to San Diego. I currently live in the Seattle area.

My father and uncle were big on bluegrass and we were always playing something - whether it was a harmonica, banjo, steel drums, etc. I started playing mandolin as a kid, and now I split my time between guitar and uke.

I love playing stringed instruments, gardening, exploring, learning languages, and cooking. I am always looking for new ways to combine these interests in creative projects.

I hope to learn best practices and make better architectural and backend design decisions.

The last movie I saw was last week, and it was called Project Hail Mary. I highly recommend it, especially if you like space movies.

I am a little bit of both. From growing up on a farm, I naturally wake up at 5:30am without an alarm clock but if there are work shifts or other plans it can shift into me being more of a night owl since that is when I can have time alone to do classwork.

I would visit Japan, Australia, and Ireland. These places have always fascinated me from a cultural and historical perspective. Australia has a unique ecosystem and rich indigenous culture as well.

I love all types of music from RNB, Soul, to Alternative Rock. My favorite artist of all time would probably be Rihanna, and also a big fan of bands/artists like Alabama Shakes, Death Cab for Cutie, Jorja Smith, etc. I also grew up listening to a lot of Chris Cornell (Audioslave, Soundgarden, etc.) but I will also never skip a song by Curtis Mayfield or Donny Hathaway.

Both! If I have a yard or neighborhood that is good for walking around, I prefer having a dog. If I have a busy lifestyle and need a more independent pet, cats are great for that.
